At International House, we believe learning a language should be a challenging, rewarding and, above all, enjoyable experience. For many people, learning a new language can become an experience that broadens their horizons and opens up new opportunities.
Learning a language in another country is especially rewarding. International House schools in English-speaking countries and other destinations around the world run courses all year round for over-16s, and in July and August for Young Learners (children aged 8 to 17).

IMMERSION
A true language and cultural immersion
Students get to live a true language and cultural immersion, which helps them understand the language better, communicate better and discover new cultures from a unique perspective.
As part of our international network, International House schools work to high standards of teaching, services and student care, offering courses in English and in more than 30 other languages.
THE PROGRAMME
What studying at an IH school is like
Length and weekly hours
You choose how long to stay (at least 1 week) and how many hours a week: 15, 20 or 25.
We recommend 20 hours a week, to balance classes with free time for activities.
Start and arrival dates
General English: classes start every Monday, arriving the Sunday before.
Young Learners courses: start dates may vary.
Optional: transfer from the airport to the residence or host family.
Activities
There are activities from Monday to Friday, both free and paid. For example, at IH London:
Staying with a host family
- Available from age 16 (compulsory for under-18s).
- Families approved by IH directly, not through an agency.
- Inspected twice a year, with background checks.
- Breakfast included; dinner optional (4 or 7 times a week).
- Under-18s must book the plan with dinner included.
- 30–45 minutes from the school, with excellent public transport.
If siblings or friends travel together, they can ask to stay together.
